The White Mountain School of Art, from 1834 to 1926, emphasized the majestic glory of America’s landscapes over European paintings of gods, royalty, warriors, and temples.
Our goal is to introduce visitors to this unique art, here in the Mount Washington Valley, where many important pieces were painted. The Museum exhibits oil paintings from the collections of local private collectors. It spans both the first and second generations of the school.
Styles include classic landscapes espousing the magnificence of nature in clear artistic detail, then a move toward impressionist, luminist and tonalist. Artists include Champney, Gerry, Hill, Griggs, Craig, Shapleigh, Hart, Wyant, Herzog and many more.
