SUMMARY:Michelle O'Donnell (The Demential Dame) to Speak at Jackson Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Michelle O’Donnell (The Dementia Dame) to Speak at Jackson Public Library\nThe Friends of the Jackson Public Library will host a presentation by Michelle\nO’Donnell (aka The Dementia Dame) on 15 Things Alzheimer’s Disease Can\nTeach Us on Tuesday\, January 10\, 2023\, at 7:00 pm at the Jackson Public Library\,\n52 Main Street\, Jackson.\nWhen life handed Michelle O’Donnell lemons in the form of her husband’s\nAlzheimer’s Disease\, she added vodka. Today\, she is a widow with a lot to tell us\nabout love\, life and lessons learned – and still being learned.\nMichelle began her professional career as a journalist\, working as a reporter and\neditor at several major U.S. newspapers\, including the Los Angeles Times\, where\nshe was part of two Pulitzer-Prize winning teams. She has worked both sides of\nthe grants world\, giving money away and begging and pleading for funding for\nnonprofits. She is also the owner of The Skinny Towel and Washcloth Co. A\nnative New Yorker who now resides in Glen\, she has a B. A. in Sociology from the\nCity College of New York.\nIn 2014\, her husband\, Martin\, was diagnosed with dementia. “Dementia Dame”\ndebuted on Facebook in 2016 as a way for Michelle to rant. Michelle found other\nranters who were angry\, sad and confused at the disease that had befallen their\nloved ones and changed their lives like that! What started as a rant became a\njudgment-free community where people can vent\, share\, laugh\, cry and grieve.\nMartin passed away in June 2017.\nThe program is free and open to the public. To participate via Zoom register on\nwww.jacksonlibrary.org. Donations are welcome\, and benefit the Friends of the\nJackson Public Library.
