SUMMARY:Salamander Spring Migration
DESCRIPTION:Coming to a wet roadway in spring near you – thousands and thousands of salamanders! Why do salamanders (and frogs and toads) cross roads on wet rainy nights in spring? Where are they going? How far do they move? Who’s going where? Rick Van de Poll leads this pre-migration workshop on New Hampshire’s salamanders that introduces participants to the nine species in the region and discusses the life history\, reproductive behavior\, and migration strategies that have worked for several million years. We will focus on the three vernal pool salamanders that breed “explosively” in the spring (including the odd duck fall breeder to our south). All of the other six species can be found on the wet\, warm roadways at night as well\, so we’ll learn about them as well. Come prepared to get a firsthand look at these amazing amphibians!

SUMMARY:Spring Sky Astronomy Program
DESCRIPTION:Join Tin Mountain Conservation Center and naturalist Matt Maloney for an “all ages” evening viewing of the spring night sky from a beautiful dark sky location in Shelburne\, NH. We’ll use both our unaided eyes and telescopes to view the celestial roadmap of the heavens and understand how the constellations and stars that are visible\, change as the seasons progress. How is the spring sky different than the winter sky we’ve just left behind? Come learn and find out! \nThis program requires a clear sky. Back-up weather dates of April 21 & 23. \nThe North Country Nature Series is sponsored in part by the Neil & Louise Tillotson Fund at the NH Charitable Foundation.
